Little frocks all made lovely with smocking or delicate embroidery and hand knitted garments of fine workmanship. A soft cream jacket J’or a babe of a few months had tiny clusters of pink and blue roses, ami another slightly larger jacket had I rails of flowers worked on the collar and hem. A pair of tiny shoes matches perfectly. A lovely garment was a christening robe of hand-embroidered crepe de chine finished with rows of valcncinnes lace. Wolle.n chicks, bird.- or rabbits adorned the pretty cot covers, while the exquisite work shown in the toilette baskets—of new design ami shape, was amazing. From modest squares and circles of linen those developed into dainty affairs of real lace on soft rich materials, exquisitely embroidered. The dark gleam of polished wood was found fu be a beautiful background for glass ami silver and it looked as if the mat had come to slay. Then came tike vogue of the tinted table cloth with i serx iettes, to harmonise with the room and its furnishing. Now the mark of smartness is to have a .cream linen cloth ami servFett.es worked with coloured embroidery. We are always glad to welcome new idea s for our tables, for somehow, linens are the apple of the housewife’s eye—perhaps it is because tables can be made quite fascinating with pretty cloths. Some combine stitchcry and open work —not unlike broderie anglais^—in a most attractive way (while other de signs are outlined with thread stitching in several colours combined with a touch of black, the outlining taking geometrical shapes. One pretty design in two .-hades of rich blue and gold in a square design is inset in a thread square of black stitchery. Nothing could be more dainty ami enticing for a luncheon party than a table laid with one of these new hand worked cloths, with serviettes to match. Princess Margaret Rose.
