Communists broke up a meeting of the Patriotic Youth movement resulting in a street battle in the working class quarter of Davro-n. Twelve people wore injured. Thirty arrests were made. Loyalists ami Communists came into collision near Eyguieres, and several people were wounded by revolver shuts. Meantime, the Ministry received an ominous blow at the by-election at Clermont Ferrand, where the Radicals lost a stronghold to the Socialists, the result showing the force of the popular front movement, m which Socialists, Communists, and Left-Wing Radicals are co-operating in the hope of forming a Government when Parliament reassembles in October.
