WAGE CUTS GIVE RISE TO RIOTING I POPULAR FRONT MOVEMENT [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] PARIS, Aug. 5. Al. Laval’s decrees were attacked by the congress of the Federation, of School Teachers. Mr. Jouhaux, Lite leader of the largest federation cf 1- reach trade unionists, was present as a guest. He said that his organisation would nut hesitate, if necessary, to renew the general strike of February 12 last year in order tu overthrow the U u-veruiuent. Workmen at Brest Arsenal downed tools this afternoon and marched in the streets heralded by red flags and singing the Inuernaticnale, as a protest against the 10 per cent. cut. The Tuulon dockers’ demonstration against the wage cut ended in rioting. Stones were thrown and shuts fired, J 3 people being injured, including seven police. Communists broke up a meeting of the Patriotic Youth movement resulting in a street battle in the working class quarter of Davro-n. Twelve people wore injured. Thirty arrests were made. Loyalists ami Communists came into collision near Eyguieres, and several people were wounded by revolver shuts. Meantime, the Ministry received an ominous blow at the by-election at Clermont Ferrand, where the Radicals lost a stronghold to the Socialists, the result showing the force of the popular front movement, m which Socialists, Communists, and Left-Wing Radicals are co-operating in the hope of forming a Government when Parliament reassembles in October.
