JUDGE REED’S COMMENT [ Per Press Association. 1 NAPIER, Aug. 5. At the Supreme Court this morning Mr Justice Reed commented on the increase in crime in Hawke’s’Bay at a time wlicn a reduction was being shown in other districts. He commented that sheep stealing appeared to be on the increase. The Judge referred to the case in which John Walker, of Hastings, is .charged with manslaughter as very' sad. This was a case where a young man was accidentally killed by the discharge of a rifle which was pointed at deceased. Anothei manslaughter case dealt with the charge against a married woman, Frances Lorrgan, of Hastings, in •connection with the death of a young woman. A peculiar case was a charge against a prisoner O’Donnell, of Hastings, of making a false statement over the telephone in connection with the attempted murder charge against Phyllis Marshall.
