Lieutenant J. T. Scott, of Eltham, has been elected squadron leader of the “M” Squadron (South Taranaki) of the Legion of Frontiersmen. Mr. •Scott, who will carry the rank oi captain, succeeds Major Ricketts, ID.C.M., who has been promoted to second in command. New Zealand Headquarters staff. Dr. George Walker, sun of Dr. and Mrs. E. A. Walker, New Plymouth, returned home at the week-end after eight years spent in study abroad. Dr. Walker took the degrees of M.B. and M.A. at Cambridge University, and hi,, conjoint degree at Guy ’s Hospital. London. He then joined the staff at the Moorfields Eye Hospital, spent a car in a hospital at Rugby, and acted as locum tenens for doctors in various English provincial towns. During his return to New Zealand he was ship’s surgeon on the Alahari from Liverpool to Sydney. Major-General Sir Andren Russel] was honoured by the following resolution which was carried by the Waipukurau and District Returned Soldiers’ Association on Saturday night: That this gathering of returned men representative of the greater part of Hawke’s Bay, desires to place on re cord their great appreciation of the continued services of their former Commanding Officer, Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, in the interests of the returned men of New Zealand, and express the hope that he and Lady Rus sell may be spared for many years to come. ’ ’ Major R. W. J. Laing, the only son of Mrs. i?y L. Price, of Guthrie Road. Havelock North, died after a sudden illness on May 29 at the Haslor Hospital. in the south of England. Major Laing, who was born in Indian in .1883, joined the Royal Murine Light Infantry on January 1, 1902, was pro nioted to lieutenant in the following year, captain in 1913 and major in 1918. He served round the various divisions of the Red Marines until October, 1914. when he joined HALS. Kent, in which vessel be took part in | the Falkland Islands battle. On retir I <ng from service he took up insurance and licensing work. He leaves a widow and two daughters. y
