LATE MR. J. P. ALDRIDGE The funeral of «the late Mr. J. P. Aldridge was held on Saturday afternoon, when all sections of the community united in paying their last tribute of respect to the memory of one of Taihape’s earliest anl most prominent settlers. Intimate friends of deceased and his family bore the casket from his late residence to tne waiting hearse, the pall bearers for the initial stage of the last journey of deceased being as follows:—Messrs. A. McAlly (Hunterville), K. Anderson. C. Anderson. R. Jones, R. Townsend, F. Townsend (Wellington), J. Spooner. The funeral cortege left at 1.30 pan. for St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, where a most impressive service was conducted by Rev. J. C. Abbott, vicar of St. .Margaret’s, and Rev. C. Houcben. ill St. Holier’s, Auckland (son-in-law of deceased). The hearse then left for thy Taihape cemetery, where the last .sad rites were performed by the same two clergymen who had officiated at the church serThe pall bearers were Messrs. L. B. H. de Law tour (Mayor of Taihape), E. Loader (Deputy Mayor), A. James, W. J. W’hite, G. E. Anderson, F. AfeSweeney. There was a particularly large gathering of mourners at the graveside, all local bodies being represented. Returned soldiers were present in large numbers to pay tribute to an , honorary life member of the associa--1 tion. The Justice Department was also represented, while several of the earliest settlers were noticed amongst the big assemblage of mourners. The many beautiful wreaths that were received boro testimony to the very high esteem in which deceased was held. Amongst the public bodies and other organisations that sent wreaths were the following:—Wanganui Hospital Board, Centra] Hawke’s Bty Power Board, Taihape Borough Council, Taihape Patriotic Society, Taihape Returned Soldiers’ Association Society.
