BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION WANGANUI ORGANISATION ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Wanganui Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association was held on Friday, Mr. C. Masters presiding. Reporting on tho year’s activities the president stated:— “The three years under review have been years of marked progress for the Jersey breed in this district. The club subsidised the Jersey classes in the 1933 show to the extent of £l4. After subsidising the last show with £26 we show a profit to-night of £3l, while after granting a record subsidy of £75 to the coming 1935 show, your executive estimated a profit at the end of tho coming year of £2O. “During the year two general meetings of members have been held, the first to inaugurate tho first Wanganui Jersey Club Stakes to be competed for on both typo and production, and the second to boost tho breed in this district and recommend now classes for the next Wanganui Show. “A few days ago arrangements were made with the Farm Equipment Company, Ltd., to take charge of the club’s tattoo outfit and our sincere thanks are due to the company for putting itself to no end of trouble on our behalf. We also appreciate the work done for the club by the A. and P. Association, who also make no charge for general expenses including travelling on our behalf. I am making a recommendation to those who mav be in office at. the time of the 1936 show that, very substantial prizes be given for yearling bulls and heifers in the local Jersey classes which are, of course, exclusively for members of this club. The best cf stud bulls are being bought bv our members at the present time. The balance °.boet showed a profit of £36 8s 9d. Mr Masters maiatainod, however, that this was not so. In his "pinion the cows should be kept fat. Up supplied figures to support. f his con trillion. These figures were all result ant from practical working with his own stock. Feeding the cows properly was a factor which had a great deal of importance. He had found that rows should not be fed while being milked. For that matter, said Mr Maslcis, thev should not be fed near tho bails. It was a mistake to try mth! combine the two. If the Vows thought limy were coming to the bails for food they would not. give their nrik properly. The speaker gave several examples "f his experience, supported by c.o.r, lr>ts, along these lines A careful study of tho points mentioned had meant, an increase in butter fat. Mr
