Joe E. Brown is the ’feature attraction at the Majestic Theatre to-mor-row. This time he appears as a “Sixday Bike Rider” in the First National picture of that title. As a bicycle rider Joe is a regular 11 fiend,’’ but he wins the race and his girl by the most novel and hilarious fluko imaginable Joe starts out as a village cut-up who goes to the big city to show his girl, who has jilted him, and the rest of the neighbours, what a great guy he is. After getting into a terrific battle, landing in gaol and being bailed out, he makes a mad rush for the races which have already started. The race is the big climax to one of the most uproarious comedies in which the widemouthed comedian has yet appeared. It is nof only filled with riotous situations, but is crammed with breath taking thrills. An exceptionally talented cast of players have the important, roles in support of Joe. Maxine Doyle has the leading femi;\ne role. She is a com partaive newcomer to the screen, but an actress of exceptional beauty and talent. Funnyman Frank McHugh plays the role of Joe’s pal and raring team mate, while Gordon Westcott is

the “city slicker” who tries to steal Joe's girl. Others in the case include Arthur Ayleswonth, Lottie Williams, Dorothy Christy, Harry Seymour, Lloyd Neal, and William Granger. FRIENDLY SOCIETY’S BALL Big preparations are under way 'for the Taihape Friendly Society’s grand ball to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday. July 25. One of the highlights wiil be the grand march at 8.30 p.m. led by members of various lodges in full dress regalia. The music will be provided by Fred Fedson’s “Accs” (the leading orchestra of Manawatu). A feature of this band is the xylophone played by the leader of the orchestra, items being given between dances. Novelty dances will be included in the
