SHIPPING BUFFETED. DAMAGE IN WELLINGTON. ( Per Press Association ) WELLINGTON, .Inly 8. The fierce southerly gale continues unabated, a number of coastal ships be ing late in arriving. Presumably slid rering, the tanker New Zealand, from Auckland, due early to-day, has not ar rived yet. The collier Canopus, from Westport, has wirelessed that she is sheltering behind Long Island. The storm has done only minor damage locally, fences ami telephone wires being down in some localities.
