COSTLESS CREDIT

»Sir, —Yuur correspuudeut “Reader’ has hit the nail on the head. Why du the churches apparently take no notice of the Godless system uf finance which is causing the present distress? The world is able to produce sufficient lor all and yet there are millions starving. There are thousands in New Zealand insufficiently clothed and fed. The whole system is wrong and is against God’s laws. It is anti-Uhristian. When, tu increase prices and to make profits, it is necessary to cause an artificial shortage; when producers deliberately limit output and even destroy food which is oadly needed by a starving population, it is obxiuus that the system is against Christ’s teaching. He said: ‘’Love thy neighbour as thyself.” Yet our churches du not protest. The Archbishops of Canterbury and York are protesting vigorously and demanding a monetary enquiry. This should give our ministers a lead; but apparently they prefer a masterly inactivity. How anyone who professes to believe in Jesus Christ can continue to uphold such a Godless system passes understanding. One can only suppose that the inate selfishness of the system has so eateu into the hearts of men that they are no longer sane on the subject. Will some abler pen than mine try to stir our clergy into activity, Thanking you.—Yours, etc., “B.l.”
