YOUNG MAN KILLED FOUR OTHERS INJURED SERIOUS SMASH AT HAMILTON i [ Per Pr#M A*so''la.tioa ) HAMILTON, April .13. A young man was killed and four i other motorists injured in a collision. I which occurred at the corner of Galloway Street and Cambridge Road shortly after 3 o’clock this afternoon, between a heavy motor-truck laden with drums of petrol and a touring car returning from a funeral at the Hamilton East cemetery. The victims were:— Killed. A young man named Gillies, son of a garage proprietor of that name, of Taupo, aged 20 years. Injured. Patrick Shivnan, severe cuts and abrasions and shock. Condition not serious. Edward F. O’Neill, curs and bruises and severe shock. Condition not serious. John Shivnan, shock and abrasions. John Murphy, shock and abrasions. The truck was rated at 44 tons, was owned by the Gillies Motor Service Station proprietors at Taupo, and was returning south with a consignment of. 2000 gallons of petrol ifi drums when the accident occurred. The car was driven by John Shivnan. and was emerging from Galloway Street. 'The impact occurred on the crown of the road. The two vehicles met with terific force. The car was struck squarely on the left-hand side and thrown high into the air, somersault- j ing several times before coming to! rest on its wheels on a strip of lawn 20 yards from the point of impact. The motor-truck, with, the young man as sole occupant, mounted the footpath and overturned, the driver being pinned in the cab. He received extensive head injuries, from which, he died before admission to the Waikato Hospital. The four occupants of the car had a remarkable escape from seriou? injury. The truck was not severely damaged, but the car was a total loss. , The occupants of the motor-car are reported to be in a satisfactory condition.
