INTERNATIONAL SPORT
‘•GAME FOR GAME’S SAKE" Summing-up the unfortunate incidents~7n the international sport of 1934, a writer in Sporting Life says they give rise to the question whether international sporting events are worth while. If they fulfilled their purpose, they would bring a better understanding between nations. If they lead in a contrary direction, then the sooner they are ended the better. The tendency is for the international engagements to increase and it behoves all concerned to mix a little more diplomacy and a little less temper with their sport. We. must revive the old axiom, ‘‘ the game for the game’s sake,” and Britain should endeavour to set the example. AU games should be enjoyed, or they should be scrapped. Let us play our rightful part, the writer concludes, in leading the nations of the world back to a more healthy conception of what is meant by * ‘ Sport.
