Hurtling to the earth at a terrilic speed, a screw picket which, had fallen from an aeroplane JOOO feet above, just missed Miss Taylor, daughter of Air. E. Al. Taylor, Barrington Street, as she stood in the garden at her home. Passing within inches of Miss Taylor, th« steel projectile was buried deep in the ground, taking with it the mooring rope which was tied to its hilt. The police are making inquiries into the circumstances. Evidently the picket fell from an open tool box on lire ’plane. The girl was not hurt, but was in bed yesterday owing to shock. Two spikes, it, is learned, fell in Spreydon. They came from a tool box of a Aloth ’plane belonging to the Canterbury Aero- Club. Inquiries have been made by the police into the occurrence, but it. is understood no further action is contemplated. The secretary of the Canterbury Aero Club said to-day that an inquiry will be held by the club into Ihe affair. The accident was due to Ihe pilot leaving the lid of the tool box in the fuselage unlocked, with the result that the whole of the contents fell out when the machine was over Barrington Street.
