WOMAN IN HAMILTON HE ROIC R ESCUE EFFORT [ Per Press Association ] HAMILTON, March 20. A heroic attempt to rescue a woman who jumped from the railway bridge this morning was made by W. Tudhope, who noticed her plight and swam to her assistance. Tudhope who lives on the river bank, was told on the. ’phone by a friend further up the river that a woman was floating down the river calling out for help. Tudhope immediately rushed down the steep bank from the house to the river clothed in pyjamas. He saw the woman floating down over three-quarters of the way across the river. He immediately plunged in and swam towards her. As he was nearing her sank twice and just before he reached her sank again and did not reappear. The woman’s name is understood to be Mrs. P.
