REGENT THEATRE
“BELLE OF THE NINETIES.’’ Mae West’s amazing new contribution to screen history, “Belle of the Nineties,” which screens finally tonight at the Kegent Theatre, reveals the Paramount screen sensation more beautiful and alluring than ever as the foremost charmer of the gallant Southland of the Gay and Naughty •Nineties. With Koger Pryor, her leading man as a two-fisted ring hero, John Mack Brown as a gallant lover, and John Milpan, the “tall and dark” menace, Miss West plays the part of a diamond-crusted charmer, who gives up her title or burlesque queen of St. Louis to become the sweetheart of New Orleans. The whole is sumptuously and elaborately set in a careful reconstruction of the dazzling New Orleans of the latter part of the last century. The costumes are among the most beautiful ever seen on the screen. ‘ ‘ Case of the Howling Dog' ’ An unusually large and capable cast will be seen in the Warner Bros, production of “The Case of the Howling Dog,” which comes to the Kegent Theatre to-morrow. Warren William and Mary Astor have the stellar roles. William portrays a famous criminal lawyer and investigator who solves the mystery of a series of murders. This is the second time he plays the part of a detective and the second time that of a criminal lawyer. Mary Astor appears as a beautiful society woman accused of the murder of her husbandHelen Trenholme makes her bow on the screen in this picture in the romantic role. She is the brilliant young stage and radio performer recently engaged by Warner Bros.
