CHEAP PASSENGER FARES

I BRITISH RAILWAY’S SUCCESS. f British Officii* ] RUGBY, March 9. The chairman of the London and North-Eastern Railway Company (Mr. W. Whitelaw), speaking at the annual general meeting, referred to the success of the experimental reduction of passenger fares, which had stopped the continuous decrease in passenger traffic. In 1934 the NorthEastern Railway carried over 6,000,000 more passengers than in 1933, and 1,000,000 more than in 1932. Passengers’ receipts had also risen by £360,000 in the last year.
