AN EXPENSIVE SPORT

FOX HUNTING IN BRITAIN LONDON, Jan. 20The high cost of fox-hunting is be lieved to be responsible for the large number of resignations of hunt masters, Air. Reginald Wright and Lord Inchcape resigning the joint mastership of the South Athcrstone Hunt. Mr. Wright told the Daily Express that it “costs £2OOO a day to hunt some of the bigger packs, which if out thrice weekly, means an expenditure of £6OOO. Generally the master receives a guarantee of a certain sum from subscribers, but in some of the * smarter’ hunts, like Fernie, there is no guarantee, and Consequently the cost falls largely on the masters, who bear most of the cost of taking down and repairing fences and meeting poultry farmers’ claim?.’’
