Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, October 29, 4 p.m. General Situation.—A westerly depression of no great intensity is crossing the Dominion to-day, while there has been a rapid rise in pressure over eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong north to north-west at first about and north of Cook Strait, elsewhere moderate to strong southwesterlies, and south-westerlies becoming general during the next 24 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough about Cook and Fovcaux Straits, becoming rather rough on tho west coast, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong south-westerly winds and moderate to rather Tough seas. Weather: Rather unsettled, with some rain in most districts, but mainly light to moderate and irregular in distribution. Temperatures cooler to-morrow. Tho New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: —Bright sunshine, 2 hours 20 minutes. Rainfall, .44 inches. Shade temperature: Maximum, 64 deg.
