TAIHAPE

SWIAIMING CLUB DANCE. | < Tastefully decorated with orange, green and black paper streamers, strings of coloured lights, and other adornments, the Town Hall presented a gay scene on Thursday evening on the occasion of a dance promoted by the Taihape Amateur Swimming Club for the purpose of raising funds towards the cost of a swimming pool for children. It was anticipated that a large number of people would turn up to support such a worthy cause, but unfortunately the attendance was disappointing, despite the fact that it was an ideal evening for dancing and the function had been well advertised. The hall decorations were carried out under the capable direction of Mr. Joffre Lelievre. The popular Alelody Boys’ Orchestra provided the music for the dance, etxras being played by Afessrs. F. Andrews, R. Webb, and C. Murray. Mr. F. AL Healey was M.C., and kept things moving with a swing. The supper arrangements were in the hands of the following ladies ’ committee: —Mesdames Bond, Mullany, C. Murphy. Abbott, Mansfield, Easton, Hayes, Sweedlund, E. A. King, Murray. The men’s committee responsible for the organisation of the. dance consisted of Afessrs. H. Bond, R. AfeLennan, D. Woodhead, E. Afercer, F. M. Healey, and W. Hayes (secretary-). The dance was one of the most enjoyable ever hold in Taihape and it was a pity that it was not better patronised. HOCKEY NOTES. Pakeha and Y.M. played the final game of the Black Banner competition on Thursday, the match resulting in a | draw, 2—2. K. Robinson and Hartley scored for Y.M., while Wilkins and F. Bray registered goals for Pakeha. The Black Banner goes to Pakeha. GOLF NOTES. A Taihape team consisting of 16 men and 10 ladies will visit Raetihi on September 23. Those wishing to make the trip must notify the secretary «(Mr. A. P. Seccombe), by Wednesday.
