WEDDING A quiet but very pretty wedding was .ulemnised at St. Patrick’s Church, Alaugaweka, on Wednesday, September 12, wh-en Alary Ethel Lillian, youngest daughter of Airs. Church, Stratford (late of Wainui, Taihape), was married to Robert Frederick, second son of Mr. and Air*. F. Pettett, of Hawera. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Doolaghty, Air. T. Pettetc acting as best man. The church was beautifully decorated by Airs. J. Phillips with arum lilies.
The bride entered the church with her brother-in-law, Air. R. H. Floyd, and looked graceful in her gown of ivory taffeta, which almost touched the ground. Her veil of embroidered tulle (lent by her sister, Airs. R. H. Floyd), was fastened by a wreath of orange blossom and formed a train, a shower bouquet of white flowers completed a dainty toilet.
Airs. R. H. Floyd, sister of the bride, was macron of honour and was dressed in powder-blue georgette, with hat> gloves and shoes to match. Little June Floyd made a dainty flower girl in shell-pink taffeta made in early Victorian style, and presented tire bride with a horseshoe for luck after the ceremony. All the’ bouquets were beautifully made by Alias Addis, of Taihape. The reception was held at the residence of Air. and Airs. J. Phillips. The usual toasts were honoured, Father Doolaghty, in a humorous vein, keeping ‘things going merrily. The bride’s mother wore a navy and white model f’uock with a marmot coat and carried a bouquet of violets. The bridegroom’s mother was attired in a brown ensemble, with a bouquet of .spring flowers. Mrs. J. Phillips wore a mod-el frock of black elephant crepe and fur coat. , The bride travelled in navy frock and hat, with shoes and stockings to tone. PERSONAL Air- L. G. I'. Mahoney has returned from a visit io Wellington. Air. and Airs. G* Antwiss have returned from their holidays spent in Auckland. Air. Dobson has taken Air. R. Green’s place on th« postal .staff. Air. Green has been transferred to Featherston. ’The staff of the post office presented Air. Green with a handsome pocket wallet a,s a token of ■esteem. Mrs. J. Cherry and Miss B. Cherry have returned from a holiday spent in Wellington. BOWLING CLUB The secretary of the Bowling Club report* that the greens are in very good ord’er, a good deal of attention having been paid to them during the last few weeks. A general meeting will be called shortly to arrange an early opening of the club. Several keen, enthusiastic members are anxious to get started. GOLF The golf links, which have been closed during the last, four weeks, are now open again. Those who have matches to play off are requested to <lo *o as soon as possible. VALEDICTORY Prior to his departure for Featherston Mr. R. Green was presented witii a well-filled wallet by his friends and well-wishers. ATr. W. Shaw, president of the Alangaweka. Athletic Club, in making the presentation, spoke highly of the good work carried out by Air. Green, who has acted as secretary to the above club for several year* and will be missed considerably at the next season’s meeting. Air. Green suitably responded.
