ENGLAND XI BATTING. AUSTRALIA AT FOLKESTONE. LONDON, Sept. 3. On account of further rain, play in the cricket match, Australia v. an England Eleven, at Folkestone, did not begin until 3 p.m, on the second day. The wicket was easy, and consequently Chapman, captain of the England Eleven, on winning the toss, elected to bat. Before stumps were drawn JB6 runs had been made for the loss of three wickets. Hobbs and Walters, by delightful play, raised 52 runs in 40 minuses. Fleetwood-Smith had more than once troubled Walters, and he then bowled him. The same bowler continued to trouble Hobbs and "Woolley, and in attempting to drive a good-length ball. Hobbs was caught, after having batted for 110 minutes. 11—2 —38. Woolley found form and. notched 50 runs in 70 minutes, after which he and Hammond took the score to 150 for 140 minutes’ batting. Woolley was then clean bowled. He had been in for 95 minutes, and his score included nine fours. 150—3—-66. Hammond and Ames continued to bat steadily unrtil stumps Dtail®:— An England Eleven.
