The precise location of a small leak in the bank of the headrace at Arapuni hydro-electric works, which has been known to the Public Works Department since last May, was located yesterday and remedial measures have 1 been »put in hand. The chief electrical engineer (Mr. ■ Kissell) said to-day that the trouble was a minor one and would in no way interfere with the electricity supply. The maximum volume of the leak had ; been fixed at 100 gallons per ininu e. . At the point of the repair work, tne volume of water in the headrace had been lowered to the spillway level, the water being turned into the diversion tunnel, so that the diver in fixing tarpaulins could work in safety. The whole situation was regarded as being little more than routine work. A MINOR MATTER CHIEF ENGINEER’S COMMENT. f Per Press Association. J WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. “It is only a minor matter and will not stop the station from working,” said Mr. Kissel 1, chief electrical engineer to the Public Works (Department, in confirming the report that a leak had been discovered in the headrace at Arapuni. He said that the leak, which had been known to exist for some months was slightly worse than usual, and as there was a staff capable of dealing with lhe matter at Arapuni, it had been decided to undertake repairs. Some of the water had been turned into the diversion tunnel to lower the volume in the headrace, so that ’he diver, who was making repairs, could work in safety. There is sufficient water in the headrace to operate the station, which is as usual.
