The News Chronicle says that as a result of researches at the Cardiff mental hospital at Whitchurch menial patients arc being put to sleep for 1U to 14 days by an injection of narcotics, and are awaking cured. The discovery of the right narcotic in the correct quantity has resulted from years of long experiments, the difficulty being to soothe the brain without poisoning the body. This is overcome by giving the patients glucose and injecting insulin simultaneously with the narcotic. Doctor J. H. Quastel, research director, says that the investigations have revealed that the body itself produces poisons which disturb the nerve cells and may lead to mental disorder.
