ACTIVITIES IN HOLLYWOOD ALLEGATION DENIED 3 s Received Aug. 19, 6.20 p.m. s NEW YORK, Aug. 18. f A message from Sacramento states that prosecuting officials are invest! gating alleged Communistte activities in Hollywood. They name four motion picture players as contributors to that cause—Lupe Velez, Dolores Del Rio, Ramon Navarro, and James Cagney. Johnny Weismuller declared: “Lupe doesn’t even know the meaning of the word.” Cagney denied the statements categorically, while the others have not commented. Friends declared over a vear ago that 3 Cagney contributed relief to striking 3 agricultural workers in whteh Communist leaders were involved, which probably resulted in the linking of his name with the movement.
