WELLINGTON CENTENARY

DEPUTATION TO ME. FOEBES. ( Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, July 5. A request that the Government should co-operate in the preliminary work in connection with the celebration of the Wellington centenary in 1940, was made to the Prime Minister to-day by a representative deputation headed by the Mayor. Mr. Forbes referred to the difficulty the present Government had of promising support for a celebration that would take place then, but expressed the view that no Government would re frain from taking part. He promised to consider the question of appointing a Minister to sit on the committee which was makinr preliminary arrange meats for the celebration.
