EMBARGO ON ARMS
BRITAIN APPLIES IT SUPPLY ’OF AEROPLANES PARAGUAYAN ORDER REFUSED (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received July 5 6.30 p.m. LONDON, July 5. Britain has put into force an arms embargo iu tae Bolivian-Paraguayan dispute by refusing to supply aeroplanes to Paraguay. The Secretary-ueueral to the League of Nations has received the following letter from the British Government giving details of the refusal: “I have the Honour to inform you that the Paraguayan Government recently requested His Majesty’s Uhargt d’Affaires at Asuncion to ask Britain whether a license would be granted by the British Government i lor the sale to Paraguay of two f aeroplanes for purely ambulance purposes. 'i he Bmish Government informed the Paraguayan Government that they do not feel in a position to allow an order even of this kind to be fulfilled in tue United Kingdom iu view of the fact that the proposed international embargo on the export of munitions of war to Bolivia and Paraguay covers the supply of aircraft of all types. The British Government hopes that if the Government of other countries are approached in a similar sense by the Paraguayan Government they will return the same reply.”
