ALSATIAN CLUB
ALTERATION OF NAME ( Per Press Association ). AUCKLAND, July 4. A decision to alter its name to the New Zealand German Shepherd Dog Club was made at the seventh annual meeting of the New Zealand Alsatian Club. The change is designed to signify the club’s intention to breed, keep and train German shepherd dogs of a true character and type. It was stated that too much attention had been paid to “show points” in Alsatians and too little to temperament, progeny and pedigree. The president, Air. L. Lees, said today that the club admitted that there were savage Alsatians in New Zealand and it desired their extermination. Almost every case of ferocity was caused by bad breeding c-r training and the cruel practice of chaining animals for long periods. “The Alsatian is not a dog for a city flat,” said Air. Lees, “and the club in the coming year will make every effort to stamp out by law the chaining of Alsatians or any other breed. We have several cases on record of farmers using Alsatians for shepherding in New Zealand with the greatest success.’ 1
