Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, July 4, 4 p.m. General Situation. —The recent storm is now moving away eastwards, and a moderate anti-cyclone is approaching from the Tasman. Forecast.—Winds: Southerly, and moderate to strong, but decreasing, and becoming variable later over the South Island. Seas (New Zealand waters) : Rough North of Castlepoint and on the west coast of the North Island, with considerable southerly, but moderating; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate south to south-east winds and smooth to moderate seas. Weather: Still somewhat unsettled, with scattered showers along the east coast and in the far North and South, but improving rapidly. Temperatures cold,’ with some hard frosts. New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending G p.m. yesterday:—Bright sunshine, 3 hours 30 minutes. Rainfall. .25 inches. Shade temperature: Maximum, . r 0 deg.
