RAILWAY BOOKSTALLS
DEPARTMENT TAKING OVER ( Ter Tress Association ). WELLINGTON. July 3. Leases of railway bookstalls expired on Saturday. The majority of the most important have been taken over by the Railway Department. About 30 bookstalls arc concerned. There aro some which the department is not taking over, as in these cases it would not :,uit the department to do so. This is a continuation of the policy’ which has been gradually put into effect, for the bookstalls at the four main centres already are operated by the department. The new order, said Mr. Mnckley, genera! manager, would embrace all the irain stations where the department was not now controlling bookstalls and where it had the necessary staff sttachcd to the refreshment branch t* take charge. Stalls would not be taken over nt stations where the department did not possess proper facilities.
