PARTY POLITICS

THEIR HARMFUL NATURE WANGANUI MEMBER’S VIEW. DEAIOCRACY ENDANGERED. “None but those in the House know what party polities mean.” said Air. \Y A. Veitch, ALL*, for Wanganui, who presided at a meeting yesterday, which was addressed by two representatives of the New Zealand Producers’ and United Kingdom Manufacturers’ Reciprocal 'J rade Federation, both of whom condemned the system of party Government. “I have had Parliamentary experience running into 24 years,” Air. Veitch proceeded. Early in that experience I did not see much harm in the domination of private members by party interests, but 1 realise to-day the vast amount of harm it can do. In fact the destruction of democracy is rapidly being carried into effect by this evil. I am now in my seventh Parliament and looking back on the records of those that have passed, their achievements and their work, everyone of them has got a little further away from the people than the last, and that has been due -to the domination of private members by party interests.” (Applause.)
