STOLEN CAR
CRASH INTO ARCHWAY TWO YOUNG MEN ARRESTED [ Per Prewi Association. ) AUCKLAND, July 1. A motor-car in which two young men were travelling, crashed into a stone archway at tho entrance to Parnell Park on Saturday evening Both had a remarkable escape fron» injury. The vehicle was owned by Mr. D. V. Gatenby, of Grafton Road, and was missed at about 0.30 p.m. from near his residence. Half an hour later the accident occurred. Several mca pursued the car occupant* for about 50 yards, and apprehended them after a brief but violent struggle. The Parnell police arrived and the mon were taken into custody. Both arc voung, their ages being about 20 and 18.
The car, which was valued at about £159, yas extensively damaged and the left side came away when the vehicle was being removed. lu the bark of the car was a case cf surgical instruments which is alleged to have been taken from a doctor’s car. There wae an empty gin bottle in the vehicle.
