OBITUARY
MR E. JACKSON HUGHES The death took place, with tragic suddenness, at his residence, 3. Blanket Avenue, Petone, on Monday, of Mr E. Jackson Hughes. The late Mr Jackson Hughes, who was born and educated at Ashburton, was a gentleman of sterling character, and by his genial and affable disposition, won the esteem of a large circle of friends. He joined the Government Post and Telegraph Department in bis early years, and by good and efficient work/ became assistant-supervisor in the parcels branch of the G.P-O-, Wellington. He took a keen interest in all things pertaining to the welfare of the district, and was secretary of the School Committees’ Association, and an ex-ch airman of the Petone Central School. He took a leading part in establishing the Wilford School and was the first chairman of the school committee. His passing away leaves a gap in the ranks of those who are keenly interested in public welfare. He is survived by his wife, daughter and son, and his mother, Mrs T. R. J. Hughes, of Hotel Braeburn, Wanganui.
