WANGANUI RUGBY

RATANA WITHDRAWS A VOLUNTARY DECISION AVOIDANCE OF DIFFICULTIES The Ratana Football Club has voluntarily withdrawn from the Wanganui Metropolitan Rugby Union’s club competition for the present season. In a letter read at the weekly meeting of the Management Committee cf the Union last evening, Mr P. Paikea, secretary of the club, stated: “We realise that should we enter at this stage it might cause a measure of dissatisfaction among the teams already competing and give rise to difficulties. With a desire to maintain goodwill ... we have unanimously decided to stand down for this season. ’ ’ Mr Paikea’s letter added: “J am instructed by the members of mv club to express their appreciation of the decision arrived at by your Management Committee at its meeting last Tuesday in reference to our senior grade team. My club has been excluded from participating in the senior grade competition for the past three Saturdays and it would appear from the position as outlined by the chairman of your Fixtures Committee that there is no possibility of arriving at an arrangement which would operate with equitv and satisfaction to the other competing chibs and ourselves should we enter at this stage. “It appears, therefore, that the only satisfactory course in the interests of all concerned is for our team voluntarily to stand down for this season. We realise that should we enter at this stage it might cause a measure of dissatisfaction among the teams already, competing and give rise to difficulties. With a desire to maintain the goodwill that has hitherfore existed between other clubs and ourselves, we have unanimously decided to stand down for this season in order that the present competition may continue uninterrupted. Wishing to assure your union of my club’s goodwill aud willingness to vo-operatc at all times, yours faithfully, P. Paikea.” The letter was received without discussion, and the secretary was instructed to write to Mr Paikea expressing appreciation of the consideration shown by the Ratana Club.
