ARRESTED IN VIENNA

WOMAN JOURNALIST “FREE SPEECH MEETING” LONDON, April 25. The woman correspondent of the News Chronicle telegraphs from Vienna that with 14 others she was arrested while attending the first “free speech meeting’’ under the new Austrian regime. The unexpected presence of detectives lent a nervous tone to the gathering, and when an interrupter was arrested, the Vice-Mayor, Herr Winter, [sought to subdue the uproar by promising that he would arrange for his release, but a detachment of police suddenly appeared and cleared the hall. The police marched the prisoners, selected at random and including two women over the age of 60, through the streets to the police station, where they were brutally treated. The correspondent stated that she was released after three hours.
