NEW CITY POST OFFICE
WANGANUI’S REQUIREMENT MATTER RAISED AGAIN Another plea for a new post office for Wanganui was advanced by the Chamber of Commerce last night. It was decided to write to Mr. W. A. Veitch, ALP., for assistance to remind the Government that there was a promise made some time ago that Wanganui would be “next on the list.” Air. A. 8. Burgess quoted an extract from the Evening Post, which was to the effect that Air. W. Nash, AI.P. for Hutt, had advised Petonc that a post office in that centre was to bo proceeded with immediately after Dunedin’s building was finished. The latter work was in hand now. Mr. Burgess said that the Wanganui building was a disgrace. He did not think that it was right to press the Government for money at such a time, but if it intended to spend money Wanganui should obtain its share. He moved that Mr. Veitcfi’s attention bo called to the matter. This was agreed to. Dunedin has waited for many years for a post office. University students, in a magazine of their published not long ago, included a skit on the Governmental delay in erecting a building which had been promised for many years. Opposite a vacant section, and beneath a hoarding bearing these words, “This site reserved for Dunedin’s Chief Post Office,” were a spooning couple. In the next picture , the same scene was revealed, even to ■ the hoarding, but instead of the spoon- ; couple father and mother were out r walking with a family of five. I <
