WAVERLEY

GOLF The ladies’ opening of the Waveriey Golf Club was held on Tuesday in beautiful weather- There was a very large attendance, including a number of new members. The links were in splendid order and reflected great credit on the grounds committee and the caretaker. Mrs. F. Train and Airs. Casey, and Aliss AleMeekin and Mrs. N. Bromiley tied with a net score of 41, and after a play-off resulted in a win for Alesdames Train and Casey. In the junior division Alisses F. Powell and Alartin won. The best scores were as follows: — Alesdames Train and Casey 55, 14 —41; Aliss AleMeekin and Airs. N. Bromiley 54, 13 —41; Alisses J. Train and N. Alathieson 51, 9—42; Alisses AlcGregor and J. Lupton 55, 12—43; Alisses R. .Sherman and T. Aiken 63, 19—44; Aliss Beer and Airs. Pepper 54, 10—44. SHOOTING SEASON The shooting season was heralded in beautiful weather; in fact, probably too good for the sport as the ducks were flying high. Nevertheless, good bags were secured by several uf the parties. One of the best bags was that of G. Hawkins and party, who secured very close to the limit. A party at Strachan’s Lake was also very successful. P. Bremer’s party secured a good bag but was not quite as successful as usual. According to reports, those shooting on smaller lakes iu the back country secured good bags. Air C. J. Dickie and party shot 56. One member got six birds with one shot. FOOTBALL The committee of the Football Club has made arrangements for a temporary fence to be erected on the Recreation Grounds which will do away with the crowding on the side-line. The teams for Saturday are as follows: A team v. Pirates: Walker, Dickie (2), Carey, Petersen, Cunningham, Thomas, McDougal, Hair, S. Alagan, Smith, Valantinc, Neil, Verry, Olds. Emergency: Ford. B team v. Rangitatau: Loader (2), Fitzgibbons, McClenaghan, MeCarrison, Spratt, Fowler, Southcombe, Linklater, Johnston, O’Connell, Brittler, Hammond, Alagan, Mitchell, Powell, Dallison, Cleaver.
