PLUNKET SOCIETY. En'thusiam marked the annual meeting of ’the Alton sub-branch of the Plunket Society held last Tuesday evening. Airs. S. Sraitheram presided over a splendid attendance of some 30 members, including the president of the Patea branch (Airs. Haddow), and the secretary (Airs. L. Honeyfield) and several other members. The report and balance-sheet showed a most progressive step in the society ’s work, and in remarking on the subbranch’s activity, Mrs. Haddow spoke of the wonderful increase in visits to the rooms over the past four years. From 71 visits paid during the first year by mothers, the number had now increased to 398 over the past year. Appreciation of the work carried out by the retiring president. Airs. Smi’theram, was expressed by several. Election of officers resulted in Airs. A. J. Gibbs being elected president, and Airs. Sadler secretary. Following the meeting, Mrs. Sadler entertained the members at supper at her home, assisted by Alesdames Robins and Af. Atkinson. BOY SCOUTS. Splendid progress in the work of collecting funds to enable four Scouts to visit Melbourne with other New Zealand Scouts was reported at the monthly meeting of the Boy Scouts’ Association last Tuesday evening, the Afayor (Air. F. Ramsbottom) presiding over a full attendance of some 24 members. Arrangements were made for the Scouts’ concert to be held on July 23, the scoutmaster (Air. Pauling) reporting that the Scouts were practising hard. The committee decided upon i the same programme being adopted for the Scouts’ third birthday party as in other years, and the date was fixed for July 2.

GOLDEN WEDDING. Celebrations to mark the golden wedding of Air. and Airs. T. Trask, of Hawera, were h.eld at their daughter’s home in Patea, Air. and Airs. E. Harris entertaining friends and relatives for the occasions. Air. Trask has recently recovered from a serious illness, after which he and Airs. Trask spent several weeks travelling the Dominion, and Mr. Trask has now made a complete recovery. Monday evening, the date of their wedding 50 years ago. was spent very pleasantly in cards and competitions, while later a two-tiered wedding cake was ent by the dear old couple, surrounded by their sons and daughters and grandchildren.
