KITCHEN PARTY. Aliss Aladge Stent was the guest of honour at, a kitchen party at the Parish Hall, Alarton, on Thursday evening, when the members of the United Hockey Club ami friends entertained her in view of her approaching marriage to Mr. Thomas William Norris on Wednesday next. There, were about 70 guests present and an enjoyable time was spent, in a flag “500” tournament, which vva.s won by Alessrs. I. Aloore ami R. Bridge, and Misses V. Grade and AL Cummins, the consolation prizes being won by Alisses 1. Gould, AL Wilkie, and J. Howie, and Air. W. Wilkie. Air. W. G, Aitken entertained with monologue and Aliss L. Wilkie with songs. After supper had been dispensed by ladies of the hockey club the numerous parcels of kitchen uteiLsil.. were opened by lhe president of the club (Mr. T. Barton) who expressed the wishes of the members of the club to the guest of the evening, wishing he; very happness in her wedded life. Dancing was indulged in till after midnight, the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” terminating a very pleasant evening. Miss A. Grade fulfilled the duties of AI.C. THE CIVIC THEATRE. “THE WAY TO LOVE.” Alaurice Chevalier is now at the Civic Theatre in his newest starring vehicle for Paramount, “The Way to Love.” Ann Dvorak has the leading feminine role, with Edward Everett Horton supporting. It was directed by Norma Taurog from a story by Gene Fowler and Benjamin Glazer. The story of “The Way to Love” is that of a Parisian boy whose main ambition in life is to become a tourist guide for his becity. He meets a girl who has the job of target, in a carnival knife-throwing act; Chevalier finds that she is under the cruel domination of her employer, and Chevalier rescues her. The story tells of the achievement of his ambitions, the growth of his love for the girl, and of his sorrow when she leaves him. How he wins her back, with the aid of Edward Everett Horton, furnishes some of the most amusing incidents that have ever been in a Chevalier film. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE. DANCE IN AID OP CADET FUNDS. In order to raise funds for uniforms for the Cadet Division of St. John Ambulance a dance will be held in the Social Hall, Alarton Junction, ort Wednesday, April 18. The prices are: Gents Is 6d, ladies Is. GRAND BENEFIT DANCE. On account of the Alarton Chrysanthemum and Flower Show being held in the Civic Theatre on Thursday and Friday, April 26 and 27, the grand benefit dance arranged by the Marton Athletic Club for April 27 in the Empire Hall, has been postponed till Friday, May 4. CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW. The chrysanthemum, flower, vegetable and fruit, show in connection with the Alarton Presbyterian Church, on April 26 and 27, is creating a good deal of interest, amongst horticulturists in this district, and with the splendid weather that, is being experience'! there is every indication of the show being a great success. Schedules may be obtained from Air. W. H. Brown, secretary, Alarton. M.U. 1.0.0. F. LOYAL MARTON LODGE. The fortnightly meeting of the above lodge was held on Friday evening, there being a fair attendance. Reports showed that one member, Bro. B. W. de Laurier, was on the sick list, suffering from gugshot wound inflicted by armed robbers at the garage where, he is employed at Auckland. Bro. de Jmurier expects to be fit to resume work in about a fortnight. There being little business, the lodge adjourned at an early hour and spent an hour dancing, supper being served before members dispersed.
