R.S.A. The annual meeting of the Taihapc and District Returned Soldiers’ As sociatiou was held in the Town Hall supper-rooms un Friday evening when Dr. 11. Al. Hay, president, ptesided over an attendance consisting of the following: Alessrs. J. Stead, R. Spence, J. Corkill, C. Lloyd, R. AleCrone, J. Niven, W. Neal, J. Simpson, C. Harding, A. W. Barnes, L. Haydon, S. Ale Donnell, C. Wysocki, VV. Redden. J. Murrell, A. H. Denne, R. Howden, J. Caithness, A. Fuller, R. Thomas, \V. White, S. Page, A. .1.’ Hill, F. White, L. E. Lyons, Duggan and the secretary (Mr. R, S. AlcDonald). The chairman extended a hearty welcome to Mr. A. W. Barnes, who is on transfer from Takapau. The annual report and balance-sheet was read and adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — Patron, Air. 11. 11. Steedman; president, Mr. L. H. Haydon; vice-presidents, Dr. 11. Al. Hay, Air. W. White;’secretary, Air. R. S. AlcDonald; treasurer, Air. A. J. Hill; executive committee, Alessrs. J. Caithness, A. 11. Denne, A. Fuller, L. E. Lyons, C. A. AlcLarcn, J. Niven, G. Sherson, S. J. AlcDonncH; Q.AI.S., Mr. 8. Pago. The retiring president, Dr Hay, took the opportunity of thanking members for the loyalty and co-opcration ex tended to him during his term of office as president and he hoped that the same support would be accorded his successor. Air. L. H. Haydon, whom the speaker felt assured would till the position with credit and distinction. Dr. Hay, it might be mentioned, did not seek re-election.' Returning thanks, Mr. Haydon paid a high tribute to the work of Dr. Hay, who had stepped in and steered the “ship” through rocks and shoals into clear water. It was largely due to Dr. Hay’s tact and ability that the association was in such a flourishing condition to-day, and each and every member owed him a deep debt of gratitude. (Applause.) Votes of 1 hanks were accorded the secretary (Mr. R. S. AlcDonald), the treasurer (Air. A. J. Hill) and Mr. F. White for the manner in which he had looked after the crockery account. Mr. F. White suggested that a letter of thanks should be sent to the Internal Affairs Department for erecting a wall round the soldiers’ plot at the cemetery. The wall was a beautiful piece of work and the association had spent £3 in levelling the plot. It was money well spent. The suggestion was adopted. It was decided to hold Poppy Day Un Saturday, April 21, the R.S.A. office opposite the Town Hall to be used as a distributing depot. Air. S. J. ATcDonnell will be in charge. Air. L. AL Haydon was appointed to deliver a lecture on the Great War to pupils of the Utiku School. A balance-sheet in connection with the recent reunion dinner was read and adopted. On the motion of the chairman. Messrs. Fuller. Lyons and the Social Committee were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their efforts in connection with the function. The following new members wore elected:—Alessrs. H. Lloyd. J. Afurrell. C. G. Scott. A. Floyd. E. J. Askew, P. Truston, A. ATair. REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. 'The annual meeting of the Taihape Rugby Referees’ Association was held on Friday evening when there were present: Alessrs. F. Ward (chair), O. H. 'rransom, .1. Hurst, W. H. Gill, C. L. ATullany, W. J. Foley, F. Darvill, AT. Collins. AV. Alako, W. Winiata, K. Hakopa, N. B. Batchelor and J. Graham (secretary). The report and balance-sheet, showing a small credit, balance, was adopted. Air. Les Patrick was cleared to lhe Hastings Rugby Referees’ Association and appreciation of his services were placed on record. The following now members were elected: —F. Darvill. IL B. Chulze, W. 11. Gill, AL Collins, AV. A. Smith (active), A. Caulcutt (non-activc). The election of officers resulted as follow:—Patron, Dr. Al. Kronfeld; president and chairman of executive, F. AVard; vice-president, A. H. Denne; secretary and treasurer, J. Graham; committee, O. H. Transom, J. Hurst, W. H. Gill. N. B. Batchelor, AT. Collins; representative on Rugby Union, O. H. Transom; delegate to AVanganui Rugby Union area Appointment Board, O. H. Transom; Referees’ Asociation nominees on Appointment Board, ATcssrs. Ward, Hurst and Hakopa were nominated and on a ballot being held Messrs. AA’ard and Hurst were elected (with the Rugby Union nominee, the board now comprises Schofield, Ward and Hurst). Regular general meetings are to be held on alternate Thursdays throughout the season. Air. C. L. ATullany is endeavouring to arrange with Mr. T. A. Fletcher, of the New Zealand Rugby Referees’ Association, delivery a lecture to the Taihapc Association. Line umpires are, ns far as possible, to bo appointed to matches each Saturday by the Appointment Board. A’otes of thanks were passed to the police, Press and the chairman. GENERALS NEWS. An advertisement appears in this issue stating that the Taihape Plunket Society will hold a. bridge and 500 party in the Carlton rooms this evening (Monday) at 8 o’clock. Everybody is invited to attend.
