GOLF—OPENING DAY. The Patea Golf Club opened the golf ing season on Saturday at the Park Farm links. Many visitors wore present from Waverley, Hawera and Wanganui, who joined the club mom bers in Canadian foursomes. Th* weather was ideal and the course and greens in excellent order, the day bo ing thoroughly enjoyed by the large party. The best gross score was madft by Mr. Currie and Aliss Broderick and the best nett score by Mr. Potter and Miss Elmslie after a tie with Air. Harris and Aliss Slipper. The results were good, duo partly, perhaps, to the fact that 1933 ammunition was used. Riflemen C. Carey uud L. David son had the best, scores with 48 each, Huston and Brunton being close up with 47. Aliss Marion Hamcrton was hostess al a large bridge party at her home on Friday evening, when eight tables were in play. Miss Hamcrton was wearing a georgette frock of a blue and autumn leaf colouring and her decorations were goldy flowers with autumn leaves. Among the guests were Mr. and Airs. L.
