CHAMPION BAND’S VISIT
Much has been heard in Wanganui of the happenings at the recent contest in Wellington and the opportunity now presents itself for brass band lovers to judge for themselves the standard attained by the winning band, Palmerston North Garrison, under the baton of Lieut. C. Pike. Such a chance to hear a champion band so soon after a Dominion contest does not always present itself. There is no doubt that a record audience will greet the champions on this, their first visit to Wanganui. The visit will also give the public an opportunity to compare the standard of the playing of the local bands which, in the past, have consistently finished among the leaders at the big contests. It will be remembered that the champions were ' only two points ahead of the Queen’s Own in the second and most difficult selection at Wellington. A party of Palmerston North’s leading artists are accompanying the band and some fine entertainment is expected. Lieut. E. Webb and Bandmaster G. B. Bergersen, of the Queen’s Own, will present a specially-selected cornet duct. Owing to the big programme, special arrangements for trams to wait have been made, as the concert will not conclude until nearly 10 o’clock. The concert will take place in Ihe Regent Theatre.
