DO NOT DIG IN LIME

Lime in any form should be kept as near to the surface as possible, being but lightly forked into the newly dug plots. Never dig lime deeply into the soil. It tends to sink, and must therefore be spread on th c top. Nearly all soils and all crops (with the exception of potatoes) derive benefit from lime dressings. Rhododendrons and similar shrubs that love a peaty soil should not bo given lime, but fruit trees and bushes and most flowers and vegetables require lime as well as manure.
