GOLF OPENING. i The Rangitikei Golf Club’s season will bo officially opened today, when mixed foursomes will be played, the draw taking pla'ce at the Golf House at 1.15 p.m. THE PICTURES. This afternoon at 2.15 p.m. a Alivkcy Alouse matinee should prove a great attraction, and this evening at 8 p.m. a splendid programme will be screened, the star picture being “Night of the Garter,” a screen adaption of Avery Hopwood’s stage success, “GetGng Gertie’s Garter.” This is an hilarious British comedy, and the stars are Winifred Shutter, Sydney Howard and Elsie Randolph. GENERAL NEWS. Rugby football is now engaging attention in this district, and the prospects for the ‘coming season are regarded as very promising. A good number of new players will be stepping out in the various grades, and several of last season’s stalwarts are also playing again. Regular practices will commence shortly, and the selectors will then be able to arrange the teams. Flock House will put a very strong Third grade fifteen in the field, and it is a pity that the lads cannot play on Wednesdays, for they have players who are quite up to Junior standard. Bellis has been re-classified as a third grade player, and should be a tower of strength to Flock House. Already several practices have been • hold across the river, and the Ohakea fifteens will again be fairly strong. On Tuesday evening a large number of relatives and friends of Airs. W. Homes of Parewanui, paid a surprise visit to her home to wish this popular lady many happy returns of her birthday, and to present her with a suitable memento of the occasion.
