Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, April 5, 4 p.m. General Situation.—An intense anti-cyclone is still centred east of New Zealand, but a cyclonic depression is apparently developing off the Now South Wales coast. Forecast. —Winds: North east to north prevailing, moderate to strong in force. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough in Cook and Foveaux Straits, otherwise, smooth to moderate; Eastern Tasman: Freshening north-east to northerly winds and seas moderate to rather rough and increasing. Weather: Still fair to fine in most districts, but with increasing cloud and some rain probable in south Westland, southern Otago and Southland. Temperatures mild. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday. Bright sunshine, 4 hours 10 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Shade temperature: Maximum, 68 deg. Fahr.; minimum, 52 deg. Fahr. Phases of tho Moon:—Full moon, April 1; last quarter, April 8; new moon, April 15; last quarter, April 23.
