OBITUARY

MR. JOHN BOYD. The sudden passing away of Mr. John Boyd, of Heads Road, Wanganui, after a short illness, came as a great shock to his many friends. The deceased gentleman was an old resident of Wanganui, descendant of a family of early pioneers who came to Now Zealand many years ago in one of the earliest ships. As a young man he was a prominent athlete, having been a champion cyclist in Now South Wales and New Zealand. In more recent years he was closely connected with the Wanganui Athletic Association, Gouville Swimming Club, and at the time of his death was handicapper to the Wanganui Motor Boat and Sailing Club. Amongst his other activities he was keenly interested in the Wanganui Technical College Parents’ Association, being a foundation member, past president, secretary and. at the time of his death, treasurer. He was one of its most zealous workers, and he was an active member of the 'Wanganui Horticultural Society. He was well known to the motoring community having been for a number of years foreman for the Alcrewcther Alotor Co. Of sterling character and congenial happy nature he made many friends who will regret his passing. He leaves a widow, one daughter, Mrs. H. Al. Wells (Christchurch) and two sons, Wynn Boyd (Ohakunei. and Max Boyd (Wanganui) to whom much sympathy will be extended in their sad loss.
