TOWN PLANNER

WHO WILL BE APPOINTED? MEETING OF THE BOARD. [ Per Press Association. i WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. In view of the number of townplanning schemes at present before the board, and of the likelihood of further ones being submitted at an early date, the Town Planning Board, at its meeting, discussed the question of the appointment of« a town planner. Members considered it essential that an officer with the requisite technical qualifications should be attached to the board to advise it in connection with these schemes and other matters which arise, and it was decided to recommend that a town planner should be appointed. The question was discussed of proceeding with, topographical surveys with a view to preparing much of the material required for town planning schemes. It was agreed that the present time was very opportune for work of this nature, and it was decided that the question should bo taken up with the Unemployment Board of engaging for the purpose surveyors who were at present unemployed. The board considered proposals submitted by the Napier Borough Council for a modification of certain details in the Napier business area town-planning scheme, 1931. t The Timaru Town-planning Scheme was again before th e board, and further steps were taken towards bringing this scheme into operation. The board also had under consideration town-planning schemes for Huntly and New Lynn borough, Papatoetoe town district and the Mount Wellington road district. Enquiries were before the board as to its attitude with regard to further town-planning schemes now in the course of preparation and likely to be ready for submission to the board in the near future. The board decided to consider the schemes already submitted with a view to approval being given to them, and they will be referred to a committee for investigation, Accordingly it was also decided that any further single schemes submitted by borough councils and other local authorities would be considered by the board in the usual way, with a view to progress thereon being made.
