INCOME AND EXPENDITURE O. F. NELSON CASE APIA, Dee. 20. The hearing of the charges against O. F. Nelson was resumed to-day, when Inspector Braisby continued his evidence, and was si ill in the box when the Court adjourned at 3.30 p.m. Among the exhibits seized at Nelson’s residence was a Mau budget pre pared and written by Nelson—a lad admitted by the defence —which contained receipts for tax paid by natives amounting to £2400, and fines collected, £lOO, a total of £2500, less an amount retained for village committees, £5OO, leaving a total of £2OOO. Contributions received for the women ’s Mau totalled £lOO, and for the Samoa Guardian £lOO. The total receipts were £2200. On the expenditure side the following items appear: Samoa Guardian, £500; chief secretary, £6O; assistant secretary, £45; office stationery, £55; transport, £4O; the president, £100; eleven ministers, £200; retainers of the Tuimalealii fono, £100; faipules, £484; village secretaries, £132; maintenance of capital of Vaimoso, £344, The total expenditure was £lOOO, aud the balance remaining was £2OO. There is an error of £6O in the total expenditure, but thes e are the figures as shown oa the exhibits. DIFFERENCE OF OPINION NELSON’S COUNSEL WITHDRAWS (By Radio) APIA, Dec. 23. Owing to a difference of opinion between Nelson and Mr. Klinkmueller, counsel for the defence, as to how the case should be conducted, Mr. Klinkmueller asked for the permission of the Court to withdraw from the case, Nelson will now conduct his own case. A further adjournment was granted till December 27.
