CHILDREN STAMPEDE. POLICE CORDON BROKEN. SYDNEY, Dee. 22. Breaking through the police cordon, 12,000 screaming children rushed wildly in their frantic quest for toys at the big Christmas party at tho Showgrounds. Tho police and officials made strenuous efforts to restore order, but they wore unavailing. The children, out of hand, grabbed toys of every description from the stalls and from one another. Hundreds of mothers, who were not admitted, tried to force their way into the grounds. Large numbers of children were lost. Finally the unidentified kiddies were paraded in front of their mothers.
