MAN GETS EVEN
BUT SACRIFICES LIFE. INSURANCE COMPANY PAYS. ( , Received Dec. 22, 10.20 p.m. . LONDON, Dec. 22. The Daily Express’ Vienna correspondent vouches for an extraordinary story ] concerning Michael Detenyi, of Buda- ] pest, who got himself hanged in order ( to get even with an insurance company ( which insured his life for £5OOO for t death from “natural causes,” and t £lO,OOO for “death from other than natural causes.” Wanting £2500 urgently, Detenyi offered to renounce all further claims, otherwise he would commit suicide. The company, 'thinking he was bluffing, refused to pay. A few days later Detenyi killed his best friend, was tried for murder, and hanged. His heirs, claiming that tho hanging was not a natural death, successfully sued tho insurance company for £lO,OOO. The climax came j when it was found that the murdered ; man was similarly insured for £20,000 | if “death were duo to other than natural causes.” The Judge agreed s that the murder was not natural, so the f heirs of the murdered man receive £20,000, completing Detenyi’s promise t to inflict “an unpleasant and expensive s surprise upon tho company.”
