Mr. E. Ching, superintendent of the. Wanganui gaol, leaves Wanganui today for Nelson for his annual leave. I During his absence the position will be ; tilled by Mr. W. Benson, of Wellington. Guests registered at Spriggens’ Hotel include:—Messrs, a. Maitland, J. i Devonport, Misses Devonport, McMahon, and Mr. and Airs. Scott (Wellington); Air. and Airs. G. F. Coates, Misses K. Coates, and P. Coates (Auckland); Air. A. F. Hobbs (Christchurch); Mr. McH. Smith (To Awamutu). Thc following are guests at Foster’s Hotel:—Mr. and Airs. Lumley and child, Air. Mason (Wellington); Air. and Airs. W. W. Killen (Sydney); Dr. S- A. Clarke and Dr. J. J. Clarke (London); Air. J. Shorter, and Mr. J. Hassall (Auckland); Air. and Airs. J. Becki r (Dunedin); Mr. John Kynock (Keith, Scotland); Airs. G. AL Stewart (Hamilton); Mr. O. E. Kynoch (Takapau, H. 8.), Air. B. Parkinson, Miss E. Al. Parkinson, and Airs. S. P. Warburton (Yorkshire, England). Ihe death occurred on Wednesday of Mrs. A. H. Treadwell, wife of the late Reverend A. 11. Treadwell. A daughter of tho late Air. and Airs, Peter Bell, she wag born in Wanganui, and for many years she lived at Lyttelton, whore she and her husband are still affectionately remembered by their old parishioners. Home years later Air. Treadwell was called to tho Hawera Presbyterian Church, where lie was for a short time, but owing to his failing health he and Airs, Treadwell, with their young family, came to Wanganui, where Airs. Treadwell has lived since her husband’s death. Three daughters and a son arc left to mourn their loss. The death has occurred of Hamilton Gordon Forlong, dental surgeon, of Wanganui, and latterly of AJarton, Born at “Pitlurg, ’’ in Aberdeen, Air. Forlong was the third son of the late Gordon Forlong. He was brought to New Zealand by his parents, and resided with them in Bulls for several years, later coming to Wanganui. In his youth, he showed great prowess as an athlete, sportsman, and cross-coun-try rider, and he was equally brilliant as a student. He practised for many years in Wanganui but owing to a break down in health, retired to a smaller practice in Alarton, where he was practising at tho time of his death. At all times he took an active part in the work of the Church, and ho was a justice of tho peace. His passing will be regretted by his many friends, who will always remember him as a broad•minded and Christian gentleman.
