LIQUOR FOR AMERICA
BARGAINING FOR IMPORTS SEVERAL NATIONS MOVING. WASHINGTON, Dec. 19. Eight countries, including Australia, to-day sought to make advantages of the stalemate between the United States and France in their attempts to trade wine for farm produce. France, after agreeing to increase imports for large allotment of wine shipments, intended to raise tariffs on United States fruits. Great Britain seeking to include Scotch whisky in the quota is offering a large quota on United States pork products. The British Ambassador also made representation on behalf of Australian and South African wine, and Jamaica rum. Spain, Portugal, Greece, Russia, Chile, and the Argentine are actively negotiating for large increases in the w’ine quotas.
